You can literally help us Save Pets- Twice as Fast. We know this community will step up and give, the quicker we raise the money the quicker we can begin construction. The Lynchburg Humane Society's facility today is unwelcoming and unsustainable for the future of animals in this region. The environment is unfriendly for the animals and makes it difficult for people to visit and adopt.
The Board of the Lynchburg Humane Society has committed to develop a new humane care and education center. To make this amazing center a reality, we need the community's support, your support, specifically. Please read below the details of where we are today and the positive future we are headed toward.
Campaign Status: $3.6 million raised toward the
$4.8 million goal.

The Problem
UNSAFE
Rust, cracks and mold plague the areas where the animals live, creating an unhealthy and unsafe environment
UNINVITING
The institutional looking metal and cinder block building houses so many animals that the odor and cramped living conditions are overwhelming to visitors. Poor building design limits our volunteer program
UNHEALTHY
Over crowding and tight living quarters expose all the animals to disease and germs. There is no suitable area to separate and quarantine the sick animals. The design and structure of the current kennels makes it impossible to properly and thoroughly clean them. In addition, poor ventilation in treatment rooms leads many animals to contract
THE BOTTOM LINE
The current shelter is an embarrassment. It lacks the space, the sanitation and the safety required of an animal shelter. Because of this unwelcoming environment, it is difficult for people to visit and adopt animals.
THE PLAN
The Board of the Lynchburg Humane Society committed to the develpment of a new humane care and education center. This center will happen for Lynchburg with the community's support. When completed the Lynchburg Humane Education and Adoption Center will be an integral part of the fabric of our community. This center promises:

* To be a nurturing a spacious environment that will support the mental and physical healthy of both animals and visitors. The new shelter will increase the capacity to care for animals by 147%
* To be the primary tool in creating a NO KILL community. Without this building we will not be able to accomplish this goal
* To be a beacon of advocacy for the proper and humane care of animals. As such, this new building will be inviting, well-lit and temperature controlled so that each guest, whether human or animal, is treated with the utmost respect.
* To be a welcoming and friendly adoption center that provides dogs and cats wtih real
* To be a safe haven for both sick and healthy animals. Separate rooms will be used for contagious pets to avoid the spread of disease
*To be a place to promote pet care and welfare. Specific rooms in the new building have been designed for teaching humane concepts and pet obedience training. In addition, it will be a space used for community events, summer camps and birthday parties.
Current Construction/Design Status
On December 31st the Lynchburg Humane Society closed on 9.6 acres of land located at 1211 Old Graves Mill Road. This beautiful property is home to a large pasture, wooded walking trails, a house and a red barn. We are in the final stages of designing the floor plan and features in our new building and have chosen a contractor to assist us in this project.
